Software Development Lead

Job Summary: The Software Development Lead is responsible for directing the efforts of a team of Developers in the development of software and related processes on assigned projects. The Development Lead provides technical project management, oversees software quality, cultivates knowledge by mentoring and coaching skills training, assists in identify new technology. Travel may be required. Essential Job Duties: 1. Coordinates multiple development projects by fully understanding requirements; communicating with GeoComm staff regarding scope requirements, expectations, and development steps. Provides technical expertise on current and upcoming projects, acts as technical project lead to ensure all relevant aspects of the software and system are accounted for. 2. Monitors and assures software quality by overseeing periodic application design and code review meetings to ensure they follow GeoComm standards, industry software development best practices, design patterns, code analysis tools are used as well as techniques to automate testing of application code. 3. Monitors project progress for individual iterations and against release plans; works to remove project impediments, monitors project and individual task scope and promotes rapid development techniques. 4. Prepares and leads development meetings. Meets with team members to discuss project status, and meets with the Assistant Client Services Manager to report the status of projects. 5. Responsible for maintaining appropriate documentation from meetings, status reports, development procedures, and utilizes and maintains proper forms for individual projects. 6. Maintains technical product roadmap. Ensuring roadmap is in sync with project management’s general product roadmap, which also includes a system wide innovation roadmap. 7. Follows and reviews existing, current and future technology solutions and best practices related to software development, web technologies, GIS/Mapping and public safety; builds and manages prototyping and provides demos and training as needed. Essential Supervisory Job Duties: 8. Supervises and directs the efforts of employees in his/her area of responsibility. 9. Evaluates employees in his/her area of responsibility in an objective and timely manner. 10. Identifies the need for disciplinary action, initiates appropriate discipline, and follows through appropriately. 11. Assists in orienting, training, and developing employees in his/her area of responsibility. Essential Universal Job Duties: 12. Improves self in anyway possible to enhance job performance. 13. Promotes the Company, its mission, values, programs, and achievements to the public and employees. 14. Functions as a team member by assisting, supporting, and encouraging other employees in any way possible. 15. Performs related work as required; willingly and eagerly. 16. Meets deadlines as required. 17. Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. 18. Maintains a neat and organized work area. Minimum Job Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience Related Experience: 4 years Desirable Training and Experience: 1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other company personnel, employees, and the general public. 2. Ability to supervise the work of others. 3. Willingness to evaluate the work of others, and to execute remedial steps for unsatisfactory performance. 4. Ability to effectively complete highly responsible assignments requiring experience, judgment, and discretion. 5. Ability to coordinate and organize tasks for a variety of projects and meet deadlines. 6. Ability to work unsupervised and accomplish assigned tasks in a timely fashion. 7. A detailed knowledge of and/or experience in the GIS industry, including Esri ArcGIS platform, ArcObjects and other ArcGIS API’s. 8. Experience developing software with Microsoft Visual Studio, VB.NET, C#, Silverlight, WPF, XAML, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and other relational database management systems. 9. Experience with various Windows operating systems, various hardware devices including GPS receivers, data communications such as TCP/IP and UDP, IP networking, and telephony API’s.
