GIS Analyst - Transport-ITS 4 DNR

This position provides GIS programming and analysis skills to deliver GIS information to office and field staff in the traditional and to be developed mobile platforms. Supporting the mission and vision of the department through the effective management and strategic planning of a 15,000-mile roadway network serving state trust lands, including planning, design, permits, construction, maintenance, and abandonment of roadway segments, bridges and other drainage structures. Manages the State Lands proprietary transportation program (Transport) for the agency, which includes maintenance, updating, region coordination, continuing management of the road easement in GIS (Regis) project, and writing programs for a routed SDE Enterprise Geodatabase. In addition, a significant amount of time will be designated to research and develop IT solutions that provides operational transportation efficiencies to agency personnel.


Proven advanced analytical skills to scope, analyze, implement, and automate GIS processes involving lines, routes, events, and tabular datasets;
A bachelors degree or masters degree in Natural Sciences, Forest Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Science, or Bachelor of Science in Geography or GIS;
At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience writing custom ARCGIS-based Python scripts or Model Builder that makes use of linear referencing, event tables, conditional expressions, and many-to-many Spatial/Tabular relates;
Demonstrated experience in maintenance, and management of a linear referencing database.


Four years experience in GIS environmental modeling analysis using linear data, LIDAR and raster based datasets, and familiar with different ARCGIS Python objects.
At least one (1) year of experience designing and creating GIS-related data reports and summaries using MS Access or MS Excel pivot tables
At least one (1) years of experience managing GIS projects
Good understanding of road management and maintenance principles in forest or rural environments (hydraulics, pavement management, infrastructure inventory, and project management).
Knowledge of ERSI roads and highways, and Oracle SDE geodatabases.
Supervision experience of cartographers or information technology specialists.
